Location Aware Tours

If you've never heard this term before, you soon will. It's the newest trend in travel today.

Most of us have heard of GPS devices for cars. Many car rental agencies offer them as an up sell. The idea is good. You tell it where you want to go, it gives you directions. Phones even have them available now.

Location aware devices are a little different. Yes, they use sattelite technology, but you don't have to tell it where to go. Just start driving and it tells you what is around you. This might include beaches, parks, shopping, dining, historic sites, museums and lots more. It takes all the worry away and you don't miss any of the sights.

There are 2 companies with location aware touring devices operating in Hawaii, one on Maui and one on the Big Island. Soon you'll be able to download all the info from the devices, via their websites, right to own your phone.

Location aware touring is changing the way people travel and sightsee. If you want to know more about these companies in Hawaii and other locations around the world, leave me a message.

Sounds interesting

But does it still have GPS functionality? I mean, the idea of stumbling across interesting new places is compelling, but even after seven years on the Big Island, I still get lost. Like, 'how did I end up on this one-way pot-hole filled dirt road in my crummy car?' lost. lol I can't imagine visitors to the islands fairing much better in their rental Mustangs, ect.

It is a GPS too

Hey fahsey. Yes it will do regular GPS functions as well. You can find a singls location or you can program in a route to a site with several sites along the way.

It also has a browse function that allows you to preview sites, say in your hotel room, before you leave. The one on the Big Island also provide their own map with all the sites numbered and a "select by number"' feature. It even has a restroom button, so when you "gotta go", it will show you the next nearest public restroom with turn-by-turn directions.

You can check out their website at www.tourguidehawaii.com.
