Today I decided to have lunch with some of my friends down at the strand. It was awesome the food down at the strand is good and I love it. However, as we were leaving there was a group of 3 people, 1 guy and 2 girls who were staring at one of my friends that is a girl. Then randomly they gave her a very evil stare and then gave her the "rude finger".....come on Townsville how is that nice??!!!! It was sooooo rude and this friend of mine is a very decent hard working member of your community. It makes me so sad that this young women could do this for no apparent reason. As my friend did not provoke her or know her in anyway. If this really is such a wonderful city, that I do believe more and more every day, then why are other members of my community that are supposed to support each other upset my friends, who are the very members of the same community. Does anybody have an answer? Or some advice on how to avoid such things in the future!?

They looked quite young (I would say around 20 give or take 4 years) and yeah it was at the front of a take away store, but not in the store and it wasn't the take away employees.

i also find that people are not very polite or understanding to foreign guests in our city/country. i have lived overseas for 3 years in asia and found that people went out of their way to help me and were very understanding as i couldn't speak the language but appreciated me trying. alot of people here arent. it's a shame cus australians are always seen as a kind people in other countries until they come here to visit

I have had this reaction from the general Townsville public, but for other reasons stated in another blog. Someone close to me said that ignorance breeds ignorance, and intolerance breeds intolerance. Kids are like blank slates, what ever you write on these slates when they are young reflects how they act and respond as young adults. Something is seriously wrong with society today.

I agree with "tsvbloke" on that one. Kids will copy anything they see, and when people such as these "rudesters" are parading around like this, what are kids going to do to look cool?? The older kid done it, SO IT MUST BE COOL!
However, that being said, today's society has grown to only notice the BAD things that happen. If someone smiled at you, would you write about it on here? Most probably wouldn't, so I can't say that Townsville is going down to the ditches just yet, because I very rarely see these sorts of people. Is it because of the location I live in, or is it because of what I said earlier about people only noticing the bad things?

I agree that it is childish and rude to give a person the finger for no apparent reason, BUT, is it really worth getting all upset about. It wouldn't matter where you lived, you would still get those people that feel they need to act in this way. This has happened to me before, but I just ignored it. I have lived inTownsville all of my life and have found the majority of the people are quite friendly. Southerners that visit say the same. We can't let one little incident like this spoil our opinion of Townsville. Try visiting some of our Capital Cities and convince me that they are friendlier than out local residents...........
